1/3 of all Cancers are preventable by lifestyle choices. For most of us, as we age we get sedentary and lazy about our physical health. Each day we wake up feeling a little bit older and a little bit more unhealthy than the day before.
In this post, I want to help you turn the tables on this obvious but frightening way of life. My goal is to inspire you to improve your physical health each day, so that you always wake up feeling a little better and a little more alive than you did the day before.
This is your wake up call to take control of your physical health. Life is meant to be lived fully active and healthy.
The Not So Secret, Secrets to Living Better
1) Change your diet and exercise regime until your health is gradually getting better and better each day. Don't think of yourself as getting older, think of yourself as getting BETTER. Everybody should have some type of resistance training and cardio training incorporated into their daily lifestyle.
Put added emphasis on resistance training. It's easy to go for a walk, but the easiest activities are usually the ones that do the least good for you. TO LIVE LONG YOU'VE GOT TO BE STRONG!
2) Working yourself into your peak physical state will improve all aspects of your life. The more physically healthy you are the more energy and self-confidence you have. To do your best work in life you need to be in your best shape.
Even if you have a desk job don't think that having more energy won't make you better at your job. I once heard Tony Robbins talk about being in peak physical state in a speech he gave, and I believe that it is one of the best ways to live a more fulfilled life.
3) Hard work pays off...eventually. People start and stop exercising and eating healthy because it makes them uncomfortable and they don't see the point. However, in the introduction we talked about just getting a little bit better each day, or what is called "The Continuous Improvement Approach." You have to have faith that your hard work will pay off and will make a difference in the quality of your life. It won't happen right away, but it will over time.
4) Develop the ability to stay focused and complete the actions necessary to reach your goals while you are receiving resistance and while temptation is always present. For example, if you have 1/2 a dozen donuts in your kitchen and you are tempted to devour them, don't focus your thoughts on how good the donuts will taste. Instead, focus on how good you will feel after you choose to throw them away and eat an apple or orange instead. Stay focused. Stay healthy.
